NEW INFORMATION!  Cave Rock Chapter members are eligible for technical and grant assistance to make their property and home fire safe.  For more information, contact the NVFSC Project Coordinator listed above.

The community of Cave Rock is located on the east side of Highway 50 on the east shore of Lake Tahoe with steep slopes ranging from 30% to 70%. A Risk/Hazard Assessment was completed in August 2004 which rated the overall fire hazard as high. Treatment of this area is critical as there is only a single, steep, winding road for evacuation purposes. Creating defensible space within this community is listed as a high priority and defined as the first line of defense for residential structures. An overstocked pine/fir/cedar overstory with a dense brush understory comprise the fuel type within and surrounding this community. Many homes exist within dense stands of vegetation with drainages and saddles present that can draw fire ignited along the highway 50 up and into the community. Cave Rock was officially affiliated as the 20th fire safe chapter on June 10, 2004.
