Chimney Rock: The Chapter was chartered in September 2004 to perform Fire Safe Work in the Chimney Rock area on Kingsbury Grade in Stateline Nevada. A Risk/Hazard Assessment was completed in July 2004 which found the densely forested Chimney Rock area to be the highest wildfire danger area on the Eastern slope of the Lake Tahoe Basin. Naturally, we were, and remain, very concerned about doing all that is possible to make the area wildfire safe. The area contains 423 privately owned lots with homes and 100 government owned lots. The State of Nevada has treated their 30 lots and the US Forest Service has treated their 70 lots. The United States Forest Service has recently completed a forest fuels reduction project treating 1,000 acres along Kingsbury, including federal land adjacent to the North, West and East perimeters of Chimney Rock. The piles of slash remain to be burned in 2008. The Chapter has obtained funding and has implemented defensible space on 130 private parcels as of December 2007. The 9 member Board of Directors meets monthly on the third Thursday at 7:00 P.M. in the Kingsbury General Improvement District Office at 160 Pine Ridge off lower Kingsbury Grade.
