Genoa

The historic community of Genoa, located in the Sierra Nevada foothills in Douglas County, Nevada, became the 46th chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council on February 23, 2006. Chapter meetings are on the last Tuesday of every other month at 6:30 p.m. Check the events calendar for more information on Genoa chapter meetings.

The Genoa Chapter is currently working on fuels reduction efforts that will establish a fuel break on the west side of the community, as called for in the Community Wildfire Protection Plan drafted for Douglas County (Resource Concepts Inc. 2005). Additional work is being done to create defensible space on private lots. In 2006 and 2007, a community biomass collection site was established at the Genoa cemetery. Chapter members were allowed to use the site to drop off biomass at no fee. The biomass was chipped and left on site for dust control during the annual Candy Dance festival.
