Glenbrook

The Glenbrook community was the first fire safe chapter formed in the Tahoe Basin. The Board of Directors of the Glenbrook Homeowners Association (GHOA) has recently formed the Glenbrook Fire Committee to address fire protection issues within the Glenbrook community. The community of Glenbrook was recognized in 2001 by the Nevada Department of Forestry as a High-Hazardous fire zone, and a second risk/hazard assessment completed in July 2004 rated the overall fire hazard as high. The Glenbrook Project, a non-profit organization, received a grant administered by the Nevada Fire Safe Council to begin working on building a 300 foot defensible space perimeter around the community in 2002, clearing brush and other fire fuels as well as educating the community about fire prevention and preparedness. In 200_, the first live fire evacuation exercise in the Lake Tahoe basin took place at Glenbrook to determine safety and security of residents and test the evacuation plan with all emergency agencies. All emergency agencies worked as a unified command to confirm the plan logistics and develop better solutions for fire management and evacuation of residents.
