Jobs Peak was accepted as the 16th Chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council on August 12th, 2003. The chapter is located in Douglas county on Highway 88 near the California Boarder.
Most recently a grant through The Nevada Division of Forestry was utilized to maintain approximately 60 acres of pre-existing shaded fuel break on the east side of Job’s Peak. Contract mastication and seeding was completed on 60 acres, reducing fuels by approximately 240 tons. Crews have also removed riparian hazardous fuels on approximately 10 acres. Slah piles were masticated in place and hauled to a community biomass site and reduced to chips through contract tub grinding. Approximately 80 tons of biomass were generated. Herbicide treatment will take place on 5 acres in late January to address potential cheat grass infestation.
Jobs Peak is in the process of planning a winter project using Nevada Division of Forestry and Southern Nevada Public lands Management Act (SNPLMA) grant funding.
