The Kingston Chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council, in Big Smokey Valley in south Lander County, became the 60th officially recognized community chapter on March 22, 2007.
In the spring of 2008 the Kingston Chapter will be working on a fuels reduction project to clear hazardous fuel along Kingston Creek in the upper part of the Canyon. The Chapter will also be working on hazardous fuel reduction on high-risk community properties, beginning with properties bordering Forest Service and BLM lands. This project is funded by the BLM.
