In September of 2007 the Meridian Southampton  Canyon Community was accepted as the 80th chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council.  Located in South Reno above and below the Steamboat Ditch between Meridian Lane and Southampton Drive.

 This summer and Fall with funding from the Southern Nevada Public Lands Act and Bureau of Land Management  the first two phases of a fuel reduction project has been completed.  Crews removed almost 50 tons of material from an 11 acre parcel.   Phase three, which involves hazardous fuel reduction on private property, is currently in the planning stages.
