The Mexican Dam/ Pinion Hills Community, located southeast of Carson City, became the 28th Chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council on May 26, 2005. The Carson City Risk/Hazard Assesment, completed in January of 2005, identified the community as at Moderate to High risk of catastrophic loss in a wildfire event. The assessment contained two primary recommendations for the chapter: (1) Maintenance of existing fuel breaks; and (2) Expansion of supperssion resources. In the Spring of 2005, The Bureau of Land Managment and the Carson City Fire Departmetn began the constuction of the recommended fuelbreaks.
Using funds provided by the 2005 State of Nevada Appropriation the chapter placed two 10,000 gallon dry hydrants in their community.
