The Ruby Valley Chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council is located in Elko County, southeast of Elko and southwest of Wells along the Ruby Mountain Range. The Ruby Valley Chapter became the 11th chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council on September 10, 2002.
In 2004, The Ruby Valley Chapter installed dry hydrants in the community of Shantytown along with shaded fuel breaks around the community, which is located in the south end of the valley. These projects were funded by the Bureau of Land Management.
