The Virginia City Highlands was the first community to become an official chapter of the Nevada Fire Safe Council on February 25,  2002. Since then, the Chapter has sustained an active membership, written and implemented several grant funded fuels reduction projects, and raised awareness regarding the threat of catastrophic loss due to wildfire.

In 20076-2007, the Chapter and fire safe partners including the Nevada Division of Forestry and the Storey County Volunteer Fire Department, implemented a fuels reduction along Sartarac Road. The project was a fuel break designed to project the VC Highlands Community and also provide a safe evacuation route for residents.  The Nevada Fire Safe Council also worked with the Storey County VFD to install several dry hydrants throughout the community.  For more information, click here: vc-highlands-sb-1-report-121307.pdf
